A pump is the quiet part of a chocolate line, and the part that decides whether tempered mass reaches the depositor intact. We supply a range of pumps for chocolate and fat-based masses — with our production lines and as standalone units — and we size each one to the duty rather than pulling a stock unit off a shelf. The right pump depends on your mass, its temperature, its flow rate, and whether it carries inclusions.

How we build to your product

A pump moves mass from one station to the next: melting tank to mixer, mixer to ball mill, storage tank to moulding line. In a chocolate line that mass is viscous, often warm, sometimes carrying particles, and always food-contact. A pump chosen for water logic will shear the product, hold heat poorly, or simply stall against the viscosity. We choose the family and the construction to match the mass in front of it, which is why the four families below exist rather than one general-purpose unit.

Internal gear pumps are the workhorse for steady transfer of viscous, homogeneous chocolate. Two meshing gears carry the mass smoothly through the pump body with even, pulse-free delivery, which suits tempered chocolate on its way to a depositor or a moulding line where a consistent flow protects the temper. They handle high viscosity well and run quietly at controlled speed. Where your mass is smooth and free of large inclusions, an internal gear pump is usually the starting point.

Helical gear pumps handle mass more gently, which matters when the product carries fragile content or must not be broken down in transit. The helical geometry moves the mass along with less pinching, so it is a candidate for chocolate carrying softer inclusions or where the recipe cannot tolerate rough handling. Gentle handling and steady flow are the argument here rather than raw throughput. As with every family, the exact choice follows the viscosity and the particle content you give us.

Lobe pumps are the answer for shear-sensitive and particulate masses. Rotating lobes create large, low-shear cavities that carry the product through with room for particles — nut pieces, granules, biscuit inclusions, or masses that thicken or seize if worked too hard. Because the lobes do not touch in the same grinding way a tight gear set does, the pump treats the product kindly and passes solids that would jam a finer clearance. Where your mass has body, inclusions, or a temper you need to protect, a lobe pump is often the correct family.

Construction is the second decision, running alongside the family choice. Stainless steel is the food-contact standard: hygienic, cleanable, corrosion-resistant, and correct for surfaces the product touches. Bronze appears where a specific duty calls for it in a pump's mechanical parts. We specify the construction for the mass, the food-contact surfaces, and the duty cycle the pump will run, so the wetted path is right for a food line and the working parts are right for the load.

Sizing a pump is a set of questions, not a catalogue lookup. Viscosity sets how hard the pump must work and how it must be geared. Temperature sets whether the pump body needs jacketing to hold the mass at working temperature and stop it setting inside the pump. Flow rate sets the pump's capacity against the line it feeds. Particle and inclusion content decides the family outright — a fine internal gear pump and a particulate mass are the wrong pairing. Hygienic construction and cleanability are constant requirements across all of them.

Jacketing deserves its own note, because chocolate and fat-based masses set when they cool. A jacketed pump body holds the mass at temperature as it passes through, which keeps tempered chocolate in temper and stops fat-based masses stiffening against cold metal. Whether a given pump needs jacketing depends on your product, its working temperature, and the length and exposure of the run it serves. The wrong family will shear a delicate mass, jam on inclusions, or fail to hold temperature — so we spec to the duty rather than sell a stock unit.
